About
About CollectorPrimer
CollectorPrimer is an independent publication for people buying their first serious artwork. Our editorial team has spent over a decade working with galleries and collectors on emerging art from Russia and Eastern Europe. We publish the kind of practical, honest advice the big art sites reserve for six-figure clients.
Who We Are
We are a small editorial team with deep roots in the art market, not a content farm with an art vertical. Elena spent twelve years in emerging art markets before starting this publication. Marcus tracks prices and sales data across European platforms. Daria checks every claim before it goes live. Between us we've handled hundreds of sales, dozens of provenance checks, and more than a few arguments about whether a painting was worth what someone paid for it.
What We Do
We write guides for beginning collectors: how to start a collection, how to value a painting, how to buy online without getting burned, how to read provenance. Everything is aimed at people spending $500 to $10,000 on art, not at auction-house regulars. Each guide answers questions we actually hear at the gallery, usually several times a week.
Why You Can Trust Us
Our advice comes from gallery practice, not from rewriting other people's articles. We sell art for a living, mostly by Russian and Eastern European artists, so when we write about pricing or authenticity we are describing work we do every day. Where we don't know something, we say so or leave it out. And when we get something wrong, we correct the page and note the new review date.
How We Make Money
Some links on this site are affiliate or partner links, marked [affiliate]. If you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commission never decides what we recommend. The full rules, including how we label links and check facts, are in our editorial standards.
The Editorial Team
Elena Novak
Founder & Lead Editor
Spent twelve years in emerging art markets before starting CollectorPrimer. Writes the collecting and buying-safety guides and personally answers most reader questions about specific artworks.
Marcus Feldt
Art Market Analyst
Covers pricing, comparable sales, and undervalued market segments. Spent eight years following Eastern European auction results before most of the market paid attention to them.
Daria Sokolova
Research Editor
Checks facts, provenance claims, and every price we publish. Previously catalogued private collections in Riga and Berlin, which made her allergic to unverified attributions.
